How do we live and experience our language(s) in the neighborhood?

Reininghaus is a newly developing neighborhood in southwest Graz, where linguistic diversity is a part of everyday life. 16 residents explored this together: Through in-depth discussions, interviews, and creative map-making, they gathered perspectives and ideas for fostering a respectful community.

What are the aims of the project?

The goal of the project is to highlight and better understand linguistic diversity in Reininghaus. Together, residents and people who work in Reininghaus explore the opportunities and challenges that multilingualism brings to everyday life. Through in-depth group discussions, interviews, and creative workshops, we work together to develop ideas for a good community life. This also involves highlighting and valuing different linguistic resources. In this way, the project aims to contribute to the promotion of an inclusive and needs-oriented living environment. The results of the project will be displayed as a series of posters directly in the neighborhood and made accessible to everyone.

How can you participate in the project?

The workshop series and the survey phase were successfully conducted and completed in the summer of 2025; therefore, it is no longer possible to participate in the project. However, there are still opportunities to engage with the results: The resulting poster series can be borrowed or downloaded free of charge. In addition, workshops tailored to specific target groups can be booked, in which the project’s content can be explored in greater depth and discussed together. All results are also available in a comprehensive project report on the website.

The research report and further information are available on the Sprachennetzwerk Graz website.
