As a central and active part of the Austrian scientific community, the Ludwig Boltzmann Association acts both as a networker and a pioneer for international cutting-edge research in the fields of health and society, entirely in keeping with its motto: “Science for Society – Effective cutting-edge research, with and for society”. Its Ludwig Boltzmann Institutes (LBI), together with their partners, are innovative scientific pioneers. At the heart of the research carried out by all LBIs lies the scientific exploration of solutions to societal problems and issues.

Innovation through open research: Open Innovation in Science can make research more relevant, effective and better suited to addressing societal challenges by incorporating diverse perspectives at an early stage. The LBG Open Innovation in Science (OIS) Center supports researchers in designing research in an interdisciplinary, participatory and inclusive manner – to achieve equitable and innovative solutions in science and society. Through advisory, training and networking services, as well as the joint development and testing of new methods, the LBG OIS Center has been promoting collaboration with citizens, patients, partners from the field, creative professionals and other societal stakeholders since 2016.
